Why we aren't packing yet....

Many have asked when we are traveling. Bummer, but not yet. Many have heard about the new TB requirements, and our little one falls into that quagmire of more nonsensical waiting. Two main reasons:

1) She is not recognized as a US citizen at adoption.
2) She is HIV+, therefore required to do the TB sputum testing, even though for her health it would be FAR better for her to get out of a country where the risk of contracting TB while she waits is far more likely then that she would pose ANY risk in the States.

Here is a link to a great blog of one of the founders of Project HOPEFUL. This woman advocates for adoptive families of HIV+ children. On this link, she discusses the FACE act, a bill which Congress is currently considering. It makes COMPLETE sense. Please read it.

So, we wait patiently, hoping to travel in 10-12 weeks.

It is a ridiculous requirement. Hope the waiting speeds by.

Congratulations on passing court! She is beautiful! I know 10-12 weeks seems like a long time - but I'm sure it will fly by as you get into the fall schedule. We have friends that just passed court with children that are not HIV+ and they were told 8-10 weeks until travel by their agency. Praying for patience and hope you enjoy the nesting!

What an inspiration you and your family are to me. I will be praying that Congress passes the FACE act and things can be expedited for children with HIV in the near future, including your precious daughter.

We too are feeling the pain of waiting for the TB results. I contacted our congressman to look into these requirements and see what can be done to change them. Hopefully the requirements for TB and adopted children can be revoked.

Oh I HATE this new requirement. While we were in ET we met an awesome lady named Julie that had adopted SEVERAL HIV+ kids. She was there to check on her kids b/c of the long wait and told us all sorts of info about it. It is bad for the kids to have to wait. I am so sorry that your another one who has to deal with this ridiculous requirement.
